Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1866 MHZ (PC3 15000) Desktop Memory (CMZ16GX3M2A1866C10R) Review

I recently built a PC server for a client. Quad-core FX processor, Asus M5A97r2 mboard, and 16GB Corsair memory. It required getting the motherboard up to its latest BIOS update, but once done everything is super-stable. The default BIOS set the memory to 1333, but I was able to raise the memory speed to 1720MHz. This also raised the FX from 4.2 to 4.6GHz. I couldn't run the memory any faster because the next speed was 2010MHz and the BIOS immediately rejected it.

The server is for the client's business and runs Fedora 17 with all the usual daemons: Sendmail, Dovecot, Apache, Pervasive DB, etc., etc. First time I've seen a Linux server fully boot within 20 seconds without a solid-state HD.

Next week I'll be paid which I'll turn around by building my own custom PC: An eight-core AMD FX-8350, Corsair 32GB 1866MHz, Asus M5A97r2, Sapphire Radeon graphics card, an extra pair of gigabit NICs, a pair of 2TB WD Black Caviar HDs, and a Sony Blu-Ray reader/burner. Mission is book-authoring, heavy CGI ray-tracing, 2D animation, content creation.

I need all the RAM I can economically cram into the motherboard, and this Corsair stuff is it. Absolutely happy with it, and unhesitatingly recommend it. However, based on other comments I recommend you make certain your motherboard's BIOS can support it.
