You are probably wondering why just 2 stars. That is an unfortunate thing. This product was purchased by me so that I could use it with roomie remote or irule. Either way, I was going to be able to control my projector, dvd player, tv, etc, etc. If I had a powered projector screen, I could even control that. But, you can only control it if the firmware matches up with what you need. If the firmware doesn't match, then...

The GC-100 family of products cannot be upgraded in the field. An upgrade to the current version of the firmware requires the unit be sent back to Global Cach�. You ship the GC-100 to Global Cach where it is upgraded, tested, repaired (when necessary), and shipped back to you. The upgrade takes one business day unless repairs are needed. Call 541-899-4800 or email support@globalcache.com and request a Return Material Authorization (RMA) number and shipping information. Units will be returned via UPS ground unless other arrangements are made. If your unit is no longer within warranty, upgrades require a $35 service charge.

This is taken directly from their support website,[...], and shows that they have this as their standard. They do not have an option for anyone to upgrade this themselves. So, if you've mounted this, you need to make sure you can unmount it.

I love the concept, but am disappointed with a company that charges for usability. You can't even use their internal applications, [...], because they are just for the current firmware versions. So, if you ever get behind in firmware, then you are at their mercy. Global Cache requires you mail this product to them. So, you need to unmount it, disconnect all the cables from it, make sure you label everything, then mail it back to them. They say it's returned in one business day, so hopefully, you don't ship too close to the weekend. Then, when it comes back, you have to re-mount it, reconnect everything, make sure every cable is plugged back in exactly, and reset the IP address, because they will probably change that on you.

Too bad. This has so much that it could offer. It just needs a company that stands behind it and thinks more about the customer impact. They do have other items that you can purchase. Their iTach line, [...]. This line does allow for upgrades and offers wifi capabilities. Too bad I purchased it before I realized they wouldn't stand behind it. Now I have a device that I can't test with their software and can't use with the software I purchased it for. If you know your software will work for it, then this is great. If you don't think you're software will require firmware upgrades outside of 2 years and you don't mind sending it to them whenever new firmware is required, then this is truly a neat product.
