I bought this computer to replace my old PC that crashed. After setting it up and reloading all my data, pics, etc, from backups, I went ahead and fired up the gateway utility to create the factory restore disks. This requires 4 DVDs. The first 2 burned and verified fine, but the 3rd kept giving me verify errors. I ended up burning 3 coasters before giving up. I also tried burning a data DVD and that did not verify either. I contacted Amazon to see about returning it and having them ship me a replacement. Amazon recommended contacting Gateway as that it would be a faster to get the burner fixed.

I contacted Gateway with less than satisfactory results After chatting with one of the reps on night duty, I was given a case number and asked to contact a "Level 2" tech the next day. I did so, and was told since the computer did in fact burn 2 DVDs OK, it was probably bad media rather than the DVD burner in the Gateway PC and they would not replace it. I was not using junk media. These were Fuji DVD+R disks which I've been using for years with zero problems. I even took the next blank one in the container and it burned and verified on my laptop, so I'm confident that the media is fine.

I ended up returning the Gateway to Amazon with no hassle. I now have a new HP to replace it and it burns my Fuji DVDs just fine. Kudos to Amazon for being a superb retailer with great customer service. Shame on Gateway.
