Mad Catz R.A.T.7 Gaming Mouse for PC and Mac Review

At first, when I saw the ads and read the spec sheet, I was amazed. I was thinking for about $80 I could get a fully customizable mouse that is great for gaming. To be honest, you change the shape the mice once and basically just forget it. The extra plates and dishes that you get with the mice probably never really gets used. I use the pinky rest, but thats it. Okay what I have described here so far is what I like about the mice.

Here is the bad news:
1. The metal used in the back and around the thumb are prime targets for oxidization. After about 5 months of use, I have noticed that the metal oxidized and is discolored. You would think that if you are selling metal, you would put a coat on it to prevent this kind of chemical reactions from happening in my palm. Mostly a look thing and yeah I know it is minor.

2. This is the deal breaker. After only 1 year of using the mice (and out of warranty), the tracking decides to stop working. I know, this is kinda of a big deal. I know it isn't my USB connection, because everything else about the mice still works, I just can't move my mice in the x or y coordinates. WTF? This isn't just me, there are many people out there with this exact problem, search google.com for RAT 7 tracking issues. I know I use this mice a lot, so I could have used it more than the average bear, but seriously? This is like the most fundamental feature of a mice, if your mice can't track, it is a nice looking $80 paper weight to me. The worst part is that from time to time I would plug the mice in again and it would track again, but only for a brief amount of time until it stops. I have read all the KBs provided by the vendor and read forums and asked support, which brings me to my last negative.

3. The support provided by them is the worst. I created a ticket about the issue and I told them that I was outside the warranty period and I was hoping that, given a good vendor, they wouldn't let something so common and horrible as the mouse not tracking be an outstanding issue, either update it or do a mass recall, because the quality of the laser in this is probably not up to par. What do I get after opening a ticket for 5 days? Nothing, so I do the right thing and I respond to my ticket asking for an update, I am now on day 10 and still heard nothing, not even a "hi, we are sorry but if since you are out of warranty, we can't help you with this issue."
