QNIX QX2710 Evolution ll LED 2560x1440 QHD PLS Panel by samsung Monitor DVI-D MATTEE Screen Review
I bought this monitor through Amazon from BuyCheckStore when it had no reviews yet, so I felt like I was gambling. I did some general research on the 2710 monitors and decided it was a good risk to get the pixel density that I've been missing since the days of CRTs.I'm not the most critical reviewer of monitors and I'm not using this for raw photo files or any other critical work like that. I use it mainly for watching video, gaming, and daily office type work.
Pros:
Screen real estate: 2560x1440
My model appears to be pixel perfect when looking at red, green, blue, white and black solid backgrounds.
My model has no backlight bleeding that I could notice in a darkened room.
I prefer the matte version that I ordered, and I don't notice any dimness or color issues that can be associated with matte finishes, and the darkened window glare is barely noticeable. I'm not sure what the difference between it and the glossy version, but I'm happy with how my choice turned out.
All the cords needed are included. Audio 1/8th" to 1/8th"; Dual link DVI with a cord that doesn't seem thin and cheap; power cord from monitor to the DC brick, then from the brick to 220V plug, and a small 220V to 110V converter.
Cons:
The power off indicator is a solid red light, rather than going dark (it's blue when on, and flashing blue when on but the PC is off).
The box said it uses 30W, the ad says 45W. Either is low enough for me, but there's a discrepancy.
Spec sheet says 8ms response time, the product box says 12ms, and one of the pictures provided advertises 6ms (GtoG). I don't know which one is correct.
The LCD panel seems to have some slack in the bezel frame. Since I'm not moving this around a lot, I'm not worried about it for my own use. (This might be why my model has no backlight bleed, too, if I understand it correctly so it might even be a pro.)
Other Thoughts:
BuyCheckStore says this product ships from CA, but it shipped from Korea. I ordered after work hours on a Friday, and the first delivery attempt from DHL was the following Friday! DHL needs a signature for this, so if you're anxious to get it ASAP keep that in mind. They will allow you to sign the back of the delivery attempt notice and leave it on the doorstep on the next delivery day if you authorize them to do so. I watched the shipment tracking and they had it go from Korea to Ohio (cleared customs) to Seattle in two days, and then it was out for delivery. Quite amazing when I think about it.
It comes in it's own box, and then a few layers of tight bubble wrap around that for extra protection. The stand base was a little loose in the package, but I found no evidence that it had any negative affect on the product.
The stand is very cheap/basic. This isn't what you're paying for. The base is connected to the stand by one small thumb screw, so it's a little wobbly.
This monitor chassis has only one working button (power on/off). The other buttons aren't used (it has no software or settings).
As stated, it has no Ad board, so all adjustments have to be made from the video card software. This is probably the biggest reason they can offer it for such a relatively low price.
The 27" vs. the 24" that I replaced is not that noticeable to me, it's a little bigger but not by all that much. (It's how much can be fit clearly into the space that matters and is so noticeable to me - seeing a full page of a word doc that doesn't require a full half of the screen makes me happy.)
I didn't even bother trying the speakers.
I haven't had it for a full week yet, but so far I'm very happy with my purchase.
EDIT 5/19/13: I hooked up audio and listened to the speakers to see if they work. They do (but I won't use them - I recommend something like a LP-2020A+ Lepai Tripath Class-T Hi-Fi Audio Mini Amplifier with Power Supply amp with bookshelf speakers). So all 5 buttons work, there's brightness + and -, and volume + and - in addition to the power button. Since there's no software there's no display on the screen, but all the buttons are connected and working properly. I'm still thoroughly happy with my purchase and use it everyday.
