Product Description

Pop a microSD card (not included) in your isostick, stop burning CDs, and start saving time. When you plug in your isostick, two drives will appear: an optical drive and a flash drive. The flash drive gives direct access to the microSD card.
Keep all your iso9660 (.iso) images and other files on the flash drive, and you can "insert" the images into the optical drive any time you want, as if they were real discs. The computer thinks a real CD/DVD drive is attached--you can even boot from it!

Read speed up to 12.5MiB/s depending on the microSD card used. That's 81x in CD speeds, or 9.46x in DVD speeds! Also, because there's no seek time, they're even faster than a real disc would be at those speeds.

I was also a backer of the Kickstarter project, as I see all the reviews so far have been. I am a technician in a data center, and while we have a pretty good system that allows us to bypass using CDs for most reinstalls / new installs for the OS on our servers, nonetheless, CDs / DVDs are a reality of my job. The isostick has, in fact, changed that. Now I don't have to pull servers from their location in our datacenter to maintenance them; I can simply throw the iso on the device for whatever I need to do. Something that makes this device absolutely unique from a few of the other similar products out there are the following:

1. isosel: Now this is cool; throw multiple isos on your isostick, and this makes is possible to boot any upon startup of the server; simply select it from a list of isos. Your computer will restart, and you simply boot from the isostick CD drive again, and it will boot the previously selected iso. Alternatively, you can turn this function off my simply renaming isosel.bin; then it will automatically boot whatever iso you specify in the config file; which works like an absolute charm! I have ran into the problem of isosel not working on some computers; when you do this, it will work perfectly.

2. Removable microSD cards!! This is AMAZING. Did your device "fry"? No worries -- throw in a new microSD, and you're good to go! Or, do what I do -- use multiple microSDs for different isos: ie, one for Windows, one for Linux (or several :P), and one for Macs.

3. Flashable firmware! Did you forget to throw on write protect, and somehow "brick" your device? No worries -- by using something small (such as a staple or paperclip), simply plug this sucker into a computer, and put that into the small hole to press the button, and you will be set to reset the firmware; the makers of this device have cool software that makes firmware upgrades fun and exciting. You think I'm kidding? They have been adding a multitude of bug fixes and improvements; all at the touch of a button.

4. Not just for bootable isos. Specify the iso you want your device to mount in the config file, and it will mount it in real-time. Have a iso of a specific program? Not a problem; it works on this. Any iso works on the isostick, and it emulates an optical drive EXTREMELY well. Did I also mention that it is FASTER than a CD / DVD drive?

This thing is incredibly unique; at first, I thought that it was a doppelganger of a few other products out there, but no -- this sits in a class of its own. Do not -- I repeat -- DO NOT pass this thing up. It will change your life. I let a few of my co-workers use mine, and the very first thing that we did was bought a few of these for our datacenter when this thing hit went on sale. I would challenge anybody to find a better product; it's small and versatile, and with firmware upgrades, you'll never see it go out of style. This was one of the finest investments I have ever made; and I am often wary of Kickstarter projects... This one panned out, though -- and if for no other reason, so that I can recommend it to you. I'd rate it higher if I could; like I said, if you work in IT, don't pass this up. It will change your life.
