First of all this thing is TINY. I have never seen a full 8-port PoE switch at this form factor before. Check my uploaded photo to see how it compares to TRENDnet's uber-popular TEG-S50g 5-port switch. Due to its dimunitive size and therefore lack of an inbuilt fan, it does run quite hot if powering multiple PoE devices, so make sure you are providing cooling to it or at the very least putting it in a well ventilated area. But that's a small price to pay for something this small and this powerful. Take a look at the competition from Netgear, D-Link and Cisco and you'll find products near this size with only 4 PoE ports. UPDATE: Thanks to the commenter who pointed out that this in fact does NOT provide full 30W power on each port; rather it provides full 30W on 4 ports or 15W on all 8. At the time I bought this that info wasn't published anywhere. Still, 15W is plenty adequate for most people who will be shopping for a switch at this form factor.

Second of all, it provides full GbE speed on all 8 ports - another feature most competitors lack at this price point. This switch can double as your VoIP/IP camera switch and your laptop/desktop switch. This makes it extremely versatile in the home environment where more and more people are going CAT6/GbE for the superior bandwidth and video streaming performance. Why invest in older technology (i.e. CAT5) when you can have something like this that does it all in one tiny package?

The only caveat I can see is the huge power supply brick which also gets extremely warm, though that's true for any high-wattage PS. Just put that on the ground or somewhere away from other devices and you'll be fine. All things considered this is probably the best designed and most versatile PoE switch for the money and with proper care it will save you a ton of money over the desktop or rackmount sized alternatives.
