You would think that when Archos came up with the idea to build a tablet designed to play games, they would have thought to put in a battery that would last more than 2 hours when playing GAMES! You can search Google for reviews on this device and see that it has gotten absolutely hammered for the poor battery life. Here's the cut and dry of it. You will NOT get more than 2 hours of life out of this device if you plan on using it to play games. Ever so slightly longer if you watch videos. And this is if you have WIFI off and screen brightness to near minimum. Which is a shame, because the device is cool. The screen is clear and of a reasonable quality for the price. The buttons are decent. The Dpad is actually 4 separate buttons, so good luck doing any Shoyuken Street Fighter moves. The mapping tool (used in games that don't support physical buttons, allowing you to map the physical buttons to the on screen buttons) is very nice. A recent firmware update has solved some lag issues that occurred when using the mapping tool. Another downer is that the unit only ships with 8GB of internal memory. Install 2 or 3 Gameloft games and the memory is FULL. Yes the device has an SD card, but as most people know, you cannot move game data to the external SD card. The external sd card is used only for media. Music, movies, and pictures. All in all, Archos has a decent device here that is absolutely useless unless you are plugged into an AC outlet, or you plan on gaming for less than 2 hour sessions and then plugging in to recharge. No firmware update is going to fix the battery problem.

EDIT: The MSRP of this device is $169. Most of the resellers on Amazon are price gouging since this was just released in the USA. Don't make the mistake of buying from them at those ridiculous prices. Amazon will have more in stock soon at the MSRP.

EDIT2: I'm upgrading my 2 star review to a 3 star review. The device is nice, and the controller mapping feature is a breeze to use. More than 100 games have the mapping pre-programmed so you don't have to map at all for those. As I said earlier tho, the Achilles heel is the battery life. But I don't usually sit for 2+ hours at a time and game on this thing. Those that do should invest in an external battery.
