Technically, this is a great monitor. Resolution, clarity, and response are all great, and it works without a hitch (on VGA) with several laptops. The ability to rotate the monitor 90 degrees into a portrait position is great for working with documents, though you do need to manually adjust your graphic properties in Windows when you do (it would be cool if it automatically sensed its orientation). But there are 2 things that keep this from getting more stars...

1. First, the small thing. There's no HDMI port, but instead a DisplayPort port. I don't know anything about DisplayPort except that I needed to buy a $20 DP/HDMI adapter to get it to plug into my laptop's HDMI port. And it still doesn't work. Maybe the fault is with the adapter - I still haven't figured that out, but my beef is that there's no HDMI port in the first place. So instead I'm using the VGA port, which is fine for what I use it for, but I'd probably be mad if I wanted the HDMI performance for games or movies.

2. Now the show stopper. As MANY other reviewers have noted, this monitor has a very thick anti-glare coating, which darkens the colors and makes the display look grainy. This might not bother me if I wasn't staring at it 8 hours a day, but I am, and it's annoying. I assumed all the other folks who mentioned this were being overly fussy, but they're not. Its very noticeable, especially if the monitor sits next to another one without the coating (which mine does). There are videos out there with instructions on how to remove the coating, but (a) it voids your warranty, (b) it takes hours, and (c) there looks to be a good chance of wrecking it in the process.

If you're replacing a monitor that has a coating like this, you'll probably be happy as a clam because there won't be a difference, but if you're used to a glossy finish, it sticks out like a sore thumb.
