First time Hitachi Deskstar user here... I Bought two of these and they're working great, although not the fastest of HDD's out on the market but quiet with low heat and zero vibration, easy to install (includes the mounting screws), attractive design, perfect capacity for HD content storage and pretty much more reliable than my 2TB WD Green drives which failed before the year was up, including my WD Raptor which accommodated my Windows 7 OS, thats 3 WD HDD failures in one year.

Those whom had to return hardware... I feel your pain, I guess I have been lucky with no DOA parts... Makes one wonder about the shipping company used when others receive faulty items from Amazon even though they neatly pack your item, could be the rough handling of couriers from point A to point B... yes i've been witness to some hideous deliveries where they just throw your stuff around, who are they to care... they didn't buy it. Maybe the use of a 'Fragile' sticker on the package (like the ones they use at airports) would be suffice... but then again, would that stop your item from arriving DOA.

I'm happy with my product and will be purchasing a couple more.
