Dualcomm's patent pending 5-Port 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Switch/TAP (DCGS-2005L) can be used as both an Ethernet switch and a network TAP. It offers several unique features that differentiate it from other vendor's Gigabit desktop switches on the market. [Power-over-Ethernet Inline Power Pass-Through] DCGS-2005L implements a set of ports for Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) inline power pass-through, which provides a low cost solution to "expand" a PoE uplink port into four downstream ports, one of which is capable of receiving the inline power from the uplink cable to power a connected PD (e.g., an PoE enabled IP phone). The PoE Inline power pass-through makes it possible to reuse a 10/100 IP phone in a "Gigabit to Desktop" connection. Otherwise, a more expensive IP phone with Gigabit ports has to be used to achieve end-to-end gigabit network connection. [Port-Mirroring] DCGS-2005L offers a unique and low cost solution for many network applications where port-mirroring is required. Port-Mirroring used to be a feature found only in many expensive managed switches requiring a series of software configurations, but DCGS-2005L makes it plug and play and hassle free without going over your budget. As a security consultant, I was carrying an old metal 10/100 hub with its power supply, in order to easily tap a workstation or server without having access to a managed switch with mirror capabilities.
I found this light switch (in its plastic version), powered by USB (it works on my laptop), with a TAP port (as I needed), Gigabit (at last), and the PoE support could be useful one day...
